Monday I met with a client who is struggling with domestic violence. Those who are in abusive relationships need to get help. However, there are often many barriers. Their abuser might monitor their every move. He or she may restrict them from seeing friends, family and certainly therapists. A Life Coach may be able to help.
Creative Life Coaching Sessions to Escape Domestic Abuse
A Coffee and Chat Life Coaching Session or a Walk and Talk Life Coaching Session can remove some of these barriers. For example, my client told her abuser that I was helping her find homes for their kittens and taking her to get groceries. This put her abuser at ease. It erased the threat the abuser might feel when he hears the words “coaching” or “therapy”.
We did brainstorm ideas about what to do with her kittens and we did also get groceries! We also got her cat certified as an emotional support animal and made phone calls to friends and shelters.
Why use Life Coaching to Escape Domestic Abuse?
- A Life Coach can sit with you and map out your fears, barriers and goals!
- A Life Coach can help prioritize what to do first!
- A Life Coach can chunk down steps into more manageable tasks!
- AND, a Life Coach can be with you as you complete each step!
When I worked with victims of domestic violence in a clinic setting or as a counselor I was limited to where I could work with the client. It was typically in an office. I helped clients find the information they needed. Then, I encouraged them to make the phone calls and complete the tasks. Then next week the client would come in and update me on their progress.
Guess what? Almost always, there wasn’t any progress at all!
Life Coaching to Escape Domestic Abuse: Bust Through Fear
What caused a lack of progress? Was the lack of progress because they were lazy, weak or stupid?
Was it because they lacked resources, financial means or transportation?
No, it was none of these things. It simply came down to FEAR and LACK OF SUPPORT!
Life Coaching with Felice at Peaks and Pride
As a Life Coach I am there beside you for every step if that is what is needed. I will provide you with the resources, the information, the encouragement and the empowerment. I hold your hand while you tackle each step on your journey to freedom.
If you, or anyone you know, is suffering from domestic violence, reach out. There is a map out and it does come with a guide. If you don’t reach out to me at Peaks and Pride, reach out to a friend, a family member, a support group. Take the first step to unlocking that prison door and use life coaching to escape domestic abuse. There are numerous resources that I have included below.

Felice
