Fear. It is a real thing. How do you get to the other side? I’ve talked about the fear responses, flight, fight and freeze. These are programmed responses and serve a purpose. For example, you are hiking in the woods and hear the hiss of a snake. You freeze, mid stride, and scan the area so you can avoid the snake. Real and justified.
What about the fear that comes from the stories in our minds? Stories built on past experiences but are no longer a threat? Memories. This is the fear that stops us short in our tracks and can strangle personal growth. How do you get to the other side and leave fear back in the dust!
My client, despite all her fear, bulldozed right through her fear of leaving all she has and knows and came out on the other side! She left her abusive husband, suddenly and quickly, when a women’s shelter called and said “pack a bag”, we will pick you up in an hour.
I was blown away by her courage! It takes a lot to walk away from your comfort zone, even when it isn’t a really comfortable or safe place. She did exactly that!
I am so proud of her.
So next time your fear rears up its ugly head, remember her story. You can be afraid, and do it anyway!
I have been reminding myself of her courage daily, as I battle my own fears.
Drop the story, drop the fear and start a new chapter or a whole new novel! We deserve to live our best life, despite our Fears!
See you on the other side!
